US Blaming India for Food Crisis....

Lately India has been blamed for all the wrong reasons. One such case was US blaming us for rising food crisis due to the over consumption pattern of the Indians. I guess they should be shown this latest report which has been published in Guardian which is as follows :

Remember, when US President George W Bush blamed India's prosperity for global food crisis? A few months back, President Bush in an interactive business session had argued that while prosperity in countries like India is good, it triggers increased demand for better nutrition, which in turn leads to higher food prices.

The comments came close on the heels of US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice's controversial statement that 'apparent improvement' in the diets of people in India and China is among the causes of the current global food crisis.

A report published in British daily, the Guardian, rubbishes this notion. A confidential World Bank report obtained by the daily, says that global food prices have shot up by 75 per cent thanks to higher production of biofuels.

Guardian says that this damning unpublished report was prepared by Don Mitchell an internationally acclaimed economist of the Bank.

The paper pointed out that the figure emphatically contradicts the US government's claims that plant-derived fuels contribute less than 3 per cent to food-price rises.

This piece of data is likely to put pressure on government in the US and Europe, who in their zeal to cut greenhouse emission and ever-increasing dependence on imported oil have banked heavily on the production of biofuels.

The news comes at a time when leaders of the G8 countries will meet in Hokkaido, Japan, to discuss global food crisis, among other raging issues.

The daily said that the Bank estimates that rising food prices have pushed 100 million people worldwide below the poverty line.

Interestingly, the research found that successive droughts in Australia have had a marginal impact compared to the EU and US' drive for biofuels.

Quoting the Bank report, Guardian said had there been no such exponential increase in biofuels, global wheat and maize stocks would not have declined to this extent.

The report, said Guardian, argues that production of biofuels has distorted food markets in three main ways:

  • It has diverted grain away from food for fuel, with over a third of US corn now used to produce ethanol and about half of vegetable oils in the EU going towards the production of biodiesel.
  • Farmers have been encouraged to set land aside for biofuel production.
  • It has sparked financial speculation in grains, driving prices up higher.

I have taken this article from rediff.com and its title is as follows:
It wasn't India! Biofuels caused food crisis July 04, 2008 16:04 IST

I guess we Indians have a lot of patience with us. People are blaming us and we are not saying or taking any action against it. Infact we again go back to them for other purposes to ask their help. Cant we be a self independent country ever ??

The girl who changed my life

Today I would like to write about a girl who has changed my life and also my perspective towards it. I would like to thank her for coming into my life and being there even when I must have made several foolish mistakes which would have ended this wonderful relationship. Before she came into my life, I was a person who hardly cared about anyone the way I do now, I was never focused about what I want to achieve in life, she made my relaionship with my family more stronger and she is responsible for me and my younger bro coming together so close as we never used to share anything between us. To bear up with me, a person needs lots of patience and also needs to have that much of belief also, so today I take this oppurtunity to thank her from my heart and also God for getting me which was the second bes thing which has ever happened to me.She is very cute, rude at times when I act childish, emotional, child from heart, innocent, an ideal person whom may be all v guys would be waiting to come into our life. She has done a lot for me, she has improved my way of thinking, frankly I am a very narrow minded person n she is complete opposite to me but still she has adjusted to me and understands me. There are often few fights which would creep in but I believe without fights no relationship would be strong and it does help u to understand the person better. She has compromised few things which I dont like just to keep me happy. Let me tell u guys one thing, I would tell her not to do something n then it would be who would be doing it, which really gets on to her nerves sometimes. I feel, I am the luckiest person on this earth and feel whatever amount I spend with her is less for me. I would like to tell her that I would try to be a better person who wouldnt give her much of headache from now onwards :)

India becoming the largest economy in 2050?

Will India ever become a super power and also one of the largest ever economy, this is the latest buzz going around in the world. People from different countries say that India will be becoming a super power by so n so year. I feel these are all there imagination which will not be true due to several reasons.
Today, India is growing at 8-9% for the past 3-4 yrs which is a very positive sign for our economy, but my question is how much of the benefit has been passed to poor people, today also an Average Indian earns less than 21$ per month. We always compare ourselves with our neighbor China, but can v ever catch them. China knows what there potential is just like we know but the main difference lies in implications, which they are very good at n which we are pathetic at. In China, world’s 2nd largest Sea Bridge of 42km was built in approximately 18months time while a small flyover of around 4kms in our country would take around 3 yrs to build and the reasons given are very weird like the fund allotted got over or there is a problem of land acquisition and so on and so forth. China is catching India in BPO industry where we enjoy the largest share. We don’t need people from outside to come and make us fight; we are more than capable of fighting within ourselves. The education provided here is below world class standards while there is a lack of infrastructure development. I don’t know who does the planning while building a flyover, the work of one has hardly began and digging of 2 or 3 flyovers coming ahead will also start thus leading to a chaos. We are unbelievingly pathetic in the way we plan things and implement it. Our airforce which is said to be one of the best in the world is facing crisis of men due to several reasons and one of the main reasons is too many crashes of MIG, which hardly fly more than they crash. We take actions after an incident has happened while it should be ideally the other way around. There is a lot of problem in our law and order, people are scared of it. The ever increasing gap of rich and poor, what steps have been taken to curb it? When there is a big incident taken place in the country instead of politicians coming together to solve it, they start blaming each others and start playing with people’s emotions just to gain some vote bank.

Frankly speaking, India after independence is as worst as when it was under the rule. Bhagat Singh had predicted the current situation and had warned us before hand but what do we do about it. We just remember these freedom fighters on their b’day or death anniversary or on 26th Jan or on 15th Aug. Not many follow what they have said. To become a superpower, we need to think like that and most importantly act on achieving that.

My Strength - My Mom

Today being a Mother's Day,I decided to pay tribute to the most influential person in my life without whom I am nothing, who gives me strength, belief, power to fight against anything and everything, without whom I would have not being the person whom everyone in this world knows. You guessed it right it is My MOM.
I come from a middle class family where we had to go through a lot of hardship when we were at school and also at college, but My Mom never let me and neither my younger bro feel the pinch of it.There were times when my Dad used to not get his payment (as he being a government servent,we all know how it works) for couple of months, she used still manage our living with whatever resources she had and never used to make us feel that there is something wrong going on and used to try and fulfill whatever demand we used to make. She is a picture of courage, strength, patience and many more to me.I still remember once when I was in 3rd Std,we were just inroduced Marathi in our school and I was very poor in grasping it.She used to sit with me and make me learn it. She left her job for us when we were very young to bring us up.She stood behind me when no one else believed in me.
I want to give her whatever she wanted but couldnt take it as she decided to sacrifice her wish for fulfilling mine and my younger brother's wish.I share a very different kind of relationship with her to that my younger brother does.My younger brother shares anything and everything he wants with her, while on the other hand,I am not able to share the same way he is .I am not scared of sharing but its that I have a lot of respect towards her and see her my Idol in life. She understands me better than most of the people who know me.People say that I am the most complicated person to be around with, but she never makes feel the same.
I would just like to tell her though I wont be able to tell her the same face to face, that I LOVE HER A LOT and would also like to promise her that we would give her all the happiness that she was entitled to and would also make her feel proud of us.

Love

Love.... Does anthing called Love does exist ? I think it does. It can happen anytime, anywhere and with anyone.U cannot think n then start loving a person. It just comes within which is very difficult to explain. Love changes a person,it can make and break him. It makes person more responsible towards life and more specifically it gives a direction to person's thinking.
